Timmons is one of two GOP candidates to run broadcast television ads in the Geenville/Spartanburg market for the race.

Timmons has taken out two loans totaling $540,000 for his campaign to win the Upstate congressional seat that U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy is relinquishing. The loans include $500,000 from United Commercial Bank in Simpsonville as well as $40,000 in Timmons' personal funds.

Timmons also has received $130,000 in campaign contributions, according to a financial disclosure report filed with the Federal Election Commission. The report showed that his campaign has spent $34,000, more than any other candidate running for the state's 4th Congressional District seat. He has about $636,000 in campaign cash on hand.

"It is important for voters to know that I am independent and can't be bought," Timmons said Monday.

Timmons is among 14 candidates in the 4th District race who have raised or borrowed more than $1.5 million in campaign money, according to FEC reports.

The Greenville News and Greenville Chamber of Commerce will host a forum for the candidates in the race from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 30 at the Hughes Main Library in downtown Greenville.
